Illustrating wheelie wonderful books for a wheelie wonderful cause.

A few years ago, Eric Olis started illustrating children’s books. It isn’t a hobby, it isn’t “for fun” and it isn’t for profit. With his sister as the author, and inspired by her son who is profoundly deaf and diagnosed with ADHD, their mission is to create acceptance of children with special needs in other children. The books see the world through Eric’s nephew’s eyes, taking his perspective on childhood experiences.

“The books are light-hearted and intended for those without disabilities,” said Eric. “They help break down barriers and alleviate stigma surrounding disability.”

The first book is titled “The Boy With Magic Ears,” and the second one “The Upside Down Classroom.” Eric is currently working on illustrations for a third book, about the adventures of a child and his/her wheelchair, titled “Wheelie Wonderful”.

All proceeds from the book sales go to AllKidsMatter.org, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and bringing awareness to disabled children through advocacy, tools and services.

When Eric isn’t at CE, attending All Kids Matter board meetings or illustrating books, you might find him sharing and reading his books aloud at his children’s elementary school.
