Why Your Network is an Exclusive Club
You should view your network as a precious commodity.

Chris Brogan raised an interesting question on Google+ a while back:
Several people are mentioning they think reciprocal follows (if you follow me, I should follow you) SHOULDN'T be the norm on Google+ . What do YOU think?
I don't think they should. But then, I don't think they should be the norm on any network. Don't get me wrong. I love to increase my networks. But I have been getting more picky about approvals and rather wish I had been since day one.
Think about all the advertisers and companies who want access to your data and your opinions. You should view your network as a precious commodity. Getting added should be like waiting in line at Back Room or PDT in Manhattan. Be exclusive, not inclusive.
So the question is, do you want your personal network to be Back Room and have to truly know someone to get in, or like an all-access pass to Disneyland?
