Press Release Campbell Ewald Looks Forward to the Next Century
Founded in 1911, Campbell Ewald is recognizing its 100th anniversary
Warren, Mich. – Metro-Detroit based advertising agency Campbell-Ewald (CE), founded in 1911 by Frank Campbell and Henry Ewald with six employees and two clients (Detroit & Cleveland Navigation and Hyatt Roller Bearing) is recognizing its 100th anniversary this year.
In acknowledgement of this milestone, CE was featured in an Ad Age special supplement on February 21, 2011, commemorating its Centennial. The feature included a look at the company’s past, present and future highlighting the agency’s long-standing commitment to it’s clients and it’s history of innovation.
CE is credited with many industry firsts including the first auto ad to use color in 1916, the first to experiment with TV in the 1940’s, and helping to establish the nation’s first college advertising program at Northwood Institute in Midland, Mich. in 1961. Today, CE continues to be a pioneer in the industry with achievements including being the first to use click-to-video on mobile and the first to implement a third-party home page takeover.
In recognition of it’s Centennial, CE and its employees will continue their long-standing history of helping others by participating in a special community initiative to be unveiled later this year. “We are proud to carry on the tradition of giving back that Frank Campbell and Henry Ewald started 100 years ago,” said Bill Ludwig, Chairman and CEO. “Giving back is deeply rooted in who we are. Our employees are passionate about helping others and our communities.”
